New TPS Superintendent Tours Topeka High School

For many people, Friday signals the end of the work week, but today marked the beginning of a new journey at Topeka Public Schools for incoming Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Anderson.

New THS Principal Rebecca Morrisey prepares to give a tour of the building
to new TPS Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Anderson.

To kick off her tenure with TPS, she joined Rebecca Morrisey for a tour of the beautiful Topeka High School. Morrisey is enjoying her own first day as THS’s new Principal. The seasoned educators cast very different shadows as they roamed the halls of the iconic Topeka school—the petite Dr. Anderson in her signature tennis shoes and the statuesque Morrisey in her trademark heels. But they bonded over their shared optimism about their new roles in the district.

Dr. Anderson was excited to see THS’s stunning architecture and learn more about the building’s students and teachers. At the end of the tour, she sat down for an interview with KSNT, where she talked about her vision for TPS and the plans she has to turn that vision into a reality. Included in her plans are a community food pantry and a new district website that will offer information in languages other than English for our ELL families, among many other initiatives.

Dr. Anderson and Morrisey walk through the crowded halls of THS. The items in the hall will be returned to nearby science classrooms, which are currently in the process of being updated thanks to the 2014 Securing Our Future bond initiative.

District patrons wanting to meet Dr. Anderson are welcome to do so at a reception being held on Thursday, July 7 from 4:00-5:00pm at TPS’s district office, Burnett Center. We hope to see many Topeka Public Schools staff and families there!
