At the 26th annual YWCA Leadership
Luncheon on Wednesday, April 2nd, not one, but two outstanding Highland Park High School women were
recognized. Principal Dr. Beryl New received the Woman of Excellence award in
the education category, while HPHS senior Monica Beltran was the winner in the
Future Leaders category.
Dr. New, who has been the principal of Highland Park High
School since 2010, said “It is really an honor to have been selected, and a
great surprise!” Beltran agreed. “I really appreciated being nominated for
this. (Winning) was a surprise for me, too.”
This is the second year in a row that Topeka Public Schools
has won in the education category. Last year, Topeka High School principal Dr.
Linda Wiley won.
Congratulations, ladies! Topeka Public Schools is so proud
of you!
