The kindergarten classes at Highland Park Central Elementary
decided to celebrate the 100th day of school by collecting 100 cans
of food. They challenged the other grades to join their efforts, and the
school’s support staff joined in, as well. Donations in each of the classrooms
were tallied daily and it became a contest to see which group could reach 100
cans first.
Ferne Tasker, Administrative Assistant to HPC’s Principal
Cleo Gardner, said “The kids are all excited! You should see them come in…
their faces are all aglow and they’ve got their arms full of bags they can
barely carry!”
The school collected 663 cans of food to donate to local
food bank Harvester’s.
