The preschoolers at Pine Ridge Prep were treated to a
delightful holiday party, courtesy of Westar Energy’s Human Resources department.
The Westar HR department has been active in Pine Ridge’s mentoring program, but
wanted to do something extra special for the children this holiday season. They
put together an exciting morning of face painting, cookie decorating, and ornament
creating for the 51 children who attend the Topeka Public Schools preschool
program. The youngsters also got balloon animals and an up-close view of a big
Westar “bucket truck.” Each of the tikes was paired up with a volunteer from
Westar for a morning of fun, and Shanna Russell, Pine Ridge Prep coordinator,
said the kids were “very excited.” The party ended with gifts for the children
from the Westar Human Resources department. They received either a Mr. or a
Mrs. Potato Head, and socks to keep their little feet warm. A big thank you
goes out to the Westar Human Resources department for making today a special
one for these young learners.
We are the largest district in Shawnee County & believe that our students will change the world.
