It’s one of the most exciting days of the year for young students and their parents, that first day of school. This morning, kids and parents waited outside schools for doors to open. As they did, principals and staff were standing by welcoming students back to school. Superintendent Dr. Julie Ford, members of the board of education and district administrators were at schools handing out stickers to parents which said, I dropped my student at school today.
Not all students returned to school today though. Tomorrow will be the first day for 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students.
School officials expect more than 13,900 students will be attending Topeka Public Schools this year, up slightly from last year.
