Some of Santa’s best helpers are Topeka High Junior ROTC
cadets. Each Christmas season, the
cadets collect thousands of canned goods and hundreds of toys to help make a
merrier holiday for families in the community.
This year is no different. Cadets
collected 5,000 cans of food which were given to Lets Help. The cadets work with Toys for Tots. They bought toys and clothes for 35 families they
adopted. The cadets do all the planning according to Gunner Kelley. They learn budgeting skills. The cadets determine how much money will be
spent for each family, the items the family request and then they go shopping
for the items. “It is self
rewarding. We get to hand deliver some
of the gifts,” said Cadet Lt. Colonel Zachery Vick.
We are the largest district in Shawnee County & believe that our students will change the world.
