Wagemaker Goes Above and Beyond for Meadows

TPS recognizes Meadows volunteer Brenda Wagemaker as the September Above and Beyond winner. Brenda has volunteered in numerous ways over the past several years including work with the PTO and the formation of a running club. Meadows office paraprofessional Chris Kimmel nominated Brenda for “repeatedly and consistently serving Meadows in any way needed.”
She was one of the founders of the after school running club years ago. In the beginning, about 35 kids would come after school to run. Now the program has grown to about 170 participants. Students meet after school to participate in the health-related activity. The club consists of running time, a nutrition lesson and an activity of the day. She has about 20 volunteers who assist after school.
When asked why she volunteers, she says it was initially a fun way to get involved with her own children and their school. Now, she says, “I keep going because it is a great way to get to know Meadows parents and kids.” Brenda estimates that she spends about 15 to 20 hours per week working on the running club each fall and spring. Meadows Principal Nicole Dial says, “Brenda makes Meadows a better place for students, staff and parents. We are grateful for all she does for us.”
