Students Create Skeleton Art

Quincy Elementary is a signature school with an emphasis on art, so it was no surprise when the school invited puppeteer Sunny Birklund to the school.  The New Mexico artist and teacher helped older students create large Calavera masks or large skeleton puppets to be used in the Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead celebration in November.  The Mexican celebration centers on the remembrance of ancestors and loved ones who have passed away. Once the masks or puppet were finished, the students paraded around the stage in the gymnasium showing off their creations much to the delight of the younger students in the audience.
