Students Receives 10,000th Book

A student at Scott Magnet today became the 10,000 student to receive a book from the Young Leaders Society.  The group of under 40 year olds, who are connected to the United Way, have been handing out books for two years now.  Ryan Yamka started the program in memory of his father who he said liked to give back to kids.  Yamka, who now lives in New Jersey, brought his family back to Topeka to be a part of handing out the 10,000th book.  “A lot of the companies in town donate money and the Young Leaders Society ran with it.  Here we are celebrating the 10,000th book in less than two years,” said Yamka.   Many of the books have been given to students in Topeka Public Schools.
